A user on the Codex BBS in Atlanta, where I'm the GEOS sub-op (call! (404) 473 - 6173 - tell 'em "SPIKE" sent ya!) wanted a desk accessory that could print envelope addresses--- he hated to send a beautiful GEOS printed letter in an envelope with a hand-scrawled address! So,
@Envelope
was born!
Envelope is a desk accessory. It runs on GEOS 64, and GEOS 128 in 40 and 80 column modes. Using Envelope is so simple as to nearly be a joy! When you've written a letter in geoWrite, simply copy the address into the text scrap, then open Envelope from the GEOS menu. Envelope will: 1) load the text scrap (if there is one), 2) load your printer driver from ANY drive (A-D), or from the 128's RAM, if available, and 3) appear on your screen.
On screen, Envelope looks much like an envelope! The text scrap appears as it will be formatted for printing. Font, ruler and style information is ignored, and tabs are converted to spaces. But WAIT! There are also ICONS! The GEOS globe "postage stamp" in the upper-right corner will close Envelope, returning to your application. You may choose between "Long" (9-1/2") and "Short" (6-1/2") envelopes. The currently chosen size has its checkbox filled in. You may also choose to print in "Draft" or "NLQ" mode, similarly. Be aware that NLQ mode might not be supported by your driver, and draft printing will result. Also, if your printer driver is revision 1, Envelope will use its internal printing routines, as geoWrite. In this case, "NLQ" mode will not be selectable. Finally there is a nice, big, pretty "Print" icon, which when clicked, will print the text as it appears on screen to your printer, with the selected options. (Long/Short/Draft/NLQ) Have an envelope ready in your printer!
A text prompt will also appear, for you to edit the address information, if you so desire. You do not have to create a text scrap to use Envelope. You may edit any field shown, by clicking on the field. The text prompt will move to the end of the information in that field, and you may delete or type there. Pressing RETURN will move the prompt on to the next field. Once you're past the last field, the prompt will disappear-- but don't worry! You can get it back by clicking on any of the fields. Also, a double-click on any field will CLEAR the information in that field, and then prompt you for entry. The text scrap isn't changed, so if you make a mess, simply exit, and re-load Envelope. The fields will be reloaded!

Each line must end with a carriage return. If you include blank lines after the RETURN CITY/STATE/ZIP, Envelope will skip them to find the ADDRESSEE'S NAME line.
